Thought of the Day

Today at Mass...

We got to Mass and sat in our usual seat (I know! Don't you just hate people like us!) A few minutes later three strangers came in and sat in the pew across the aisle from us. The lady in the middle looked a bit like a granola-chrunchin' social justice type. You know...gray hair parted in the middle and hanging down around her face just like it did when she graduated in 1971. Let's call her Marcy.

A few minutes later Marcy spied the statue of Our Lady and headed in that direction. She looked around for a candle to light but I knew she wouldn't find any. They are all in a storage room just off the church proper. She came back my way and I signalled her over and whispered, "do you need a candle?" The relief on her face was evident! I got her a candle, she gave me a squeeze and she went off to the statue to light it.

After Mass I fumbled around in my bag for my stash of "silver bullets" as St. Maximilian Kolbe called the Miraculous Medal, and found a Divine Mercy medal as well. As I left the church Marcy was still in her pew. I tapped her on the shoulder and gave her the medals and she gave me a great big hug.

Was she just a visitor or an angel? I don't know. Probably just a visitor. But she certainly made my day!
