Some parishioners of the Diocese of Antigonish, Nova Scota, are threatening to quit the Church after it was made public that their bishop, who resigned Sept. 26, 2009, was caught with child pornography on his computer Sept. 15.
The first thing that popped into my head was this verse from scripture:
And Jesus said to them, "You will all become deserters; for it is written, "I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered.'
However, I am a bit confused by this portion - "...I will strike the shepherd..." Does Jesus strikes the shepherd? That doesn't make sense. However, this particular shepherd (Bp. Lahey) was certainly touched by the evil one and now some of the sheep are scattering.
I do not condone what the Bishop did but I will pray for him and those that would leave the Church for this reason.
