My friend is not Catholic but she was scandalized by the large public funeral. Nobody, including my friend, would deny a baptized Catholic a proper Catholic funeral and burial – but it should have been a private family affair.
I had high hopes she might consider converting but after this incident, that only seems to “prove” that the Church is enamored with celebrity, prestige and the almighty $$$$, my hopes are dashed.
As for the intentions – I actually considered them worse than Obama’s speech. After all, Obama is not Catholic – he doesn’t know any better – but those CINOs that wrote and read the intentions SHOULD know better.
This event has left a bitter taste in my mouth and it’s a smear on Holy Mother Church.
