Family lore

I am so excited! I sent a few old family photos to my niece (she is 14) and she just LOVES to see the photos and observe how family facial traits have manifested themselves through the generations. She mostly looks like her mom, my brother's wife, but has some features that come from my side of the family. In personality she is very much like my eldest son Tim, my brother, my mother and my maternal grandfather.

I have always felt close to her (she has a photo of me next to her bed - how cute is that?!) but my brother and I were semi-estranged for a number of years after my mother died. Can you say "Alex was not dealing with Mummy's death?!" Uh-huh. Anyway, we patched things up as best we could (which meant me making all the overtures and effort but whatever...) and now that my niece is older and we can connect on facebook and email I don't need to swallow my pride and appeal to my brother to let me have access to my nieces.

Tonight I am going to start writing a family history for my niece. I have a couple of cute stories about my parents that will make her giggle. And of course I will share how the different sets of grandparents met. Those are my favorite stories!

My brother does NOT like to relive the past so I don't think he's told her a lot and actually I am not sure how much of the 'family lore' he retained from all those dinner table stories that I used to inhale along with my dinner LOL!

Anyways, this is going to be a fun project!

This is a photo of my nieces - the
only one I could find on facebook
where they weren't making silly faces! Teens!!!
